GIRLS HOCKEY 2021-22
The Houston Storm is dedicated to providing a positive and inclusive environment for girls in hockey. The organization provides exceptional coaching, quality instruction, and the opportunity for girls to play in an all-girls setting. Not only will they learn new skills within the sport of hockey, but they will also have the confidence to engage with others in a competitive and supportive atmosphere.
The Houston Storm offers programs from 10U to High School level teams so that every girl can find their place on the ice. With different levels of competition available, girls can strive for excellence at any level. Plus, there are plenty of off-ice activities such as team bonding events that help strengthen relationships among players and coaches. All these activities create an atmosphere of camaraderie and support for everyone on the team.
The Houston Storm is a great opportunity for girls to take part in an all-girls hockey program, gain new skills, and make lasting friendships. We are excited to see how far these girls can go!

HOUSE
HTX Storm's house hockey program will also provide a unique and exciting experience for the players. Not only will they have practices at their local rinks, but they will also be able to benefit from playing on an all-girls team in games against other skill-appropriate teams in the co-ed house hockey league. This experience will give them a chance to learn how to work together as well as build confidence in their abilities. Additionally, it is important that these teams are non-checking divisions because it allows the players the opportunity to focus on developing their skills without fear of injury due to contact with another player. HTX Storm's house hockey program offers an amazing opportunity for young girls and boys alike to sharpen their skills and gain more confidence!
Travel Teams
The HTX Storm travel tournament teams at 10U and 12U levels are a great opportunity for young female hockey players to gain experience, develop skills, and compete against other all-girls teams. Participating in this program requires dedication and commitment from the athletes and their families. Not only is there a financial commitment to consider but also a significant time commitment with tournaments being held outside of Texas.
However, the rewards of participating in such an elite program will be worth it as these girls will have access to unique opportunities such as traveling out of state for competition, meeting new people who share a mutual love for hockey, gaining confidence on the ice through skill development and practice, and making lifelong friendships along the way.
14U Tier 2 Team and High School
The HTX Storm is a travel two team that will participate in the 14U and High School levels. The games they play include regular-season matches against all-girls Tier 2 teams in Texas or outside of the state, co-ed (boys) teams in a non-contact format, as well as all-girls travel tournaments regionally. To prepare for these tournaments, it is expected that the High School team will practice extensively to ensure they are ready for state and possibly national championships.
The goal of this program is not only to help develop talented athletes but also build strong relationships between teammates by creating an encouraging environment during practices and competitions. Additionally, coaches will provide instruction on sportsmanship and show respect for opponents at all times.
Why should my daughter play with an all-girls team as opposed to a co-ed team?
Paragraph from Lightning Made Hockey
We understand that your daughter may be competing at a higher level against higher skill level players and we do not want to deter you from that choice. That is of course your decision to make.
However, let us ask you how much of a leadership role does she have on that team? Is she able to lead her line and teach those less skilled than her? Does she have an established role on that team or is she told to simply the boys and do what they do?
We find that through girls only programs, girls are developing into leaders and finding their own voice on the team. They are surrounded by their teammates in the locker room and not missing out on that team bonding experience. She will learn more about the game and given clear expectations for how she can help the team improve and succeed as well as given her own individual goals to grow and develop.
The reality is that girls and boys play a very different skilled style of game. Girls are required carry the puck more, complete more passes and typically be skilled on their feet. Since they cannot use their body to force their opponent off the puck, they must use their hands and feet while using quick decision making and a swift style. The game becomes faster for them and they learn more about the positional side of the game. The earlier she is able to learn this style of play, the more successful she will be later down the road when it comes to her future in girls' hockey.
