Houston Roller Summer 2024

Roller Houston is an innovative roller hockey initiative launched by the Houston Youth Hockey Group (HYHG). This program is designed to make hockey more accessible and affordable, providing a thrilling alternative to ice hockey. It targets both existing players and newcomers, enabling them to enjoy the fast-paced excitement of hockey in a roller setting.

Program Duration and Location

• Duration: 6-week trial program
• Location: Houston Premier Sportsplex

Participant Structure

• Age Divisions:The program is organized into three age groups:
  • 8U-10U
  • 12U-14U
  • HS (14U-18U)

Team Composition

Each age group will have four teams, with each team consisting of 8-10 players and one goalie. Numbers can be adjusted as needed, and the opportunity for players to “drop-in” on teams short of players will be available.

Program Format

• Initial Session: The program will commence with an introductory practice for all participants to introduce the basics of roller hockey, including rules, techniques, and safety.
• Regular Games: Subsequent weeks will feature scheduled games focusing on team play. Drop-in options will be available for registered players within their respective age groups to ensure flexibility.
• Playoffs: In Week 6, the program will host a weekend round-robin tournament to determine the winner of the “Championship.”

Costs and Registration

• Player Dues: $150.00  

Program Objectives

• Develop Skills: Offer a structured environment for skill improvement in roller hockey.
• Build Community: Strengthen community bonds through sport, promoting teamwork and sportsmanship among participants.

Additional Notes

Participants are advised to bring their own roller hockey equipment. This program is designed to not only develop sports skills but also to enhance physical fitness, promote healthy competition, and foster a passion for hockey in a new and exciting format. HYHG will supply jerseys for use for the duration of the program. The jerseys will be ordered in accordance with registration numbers and may ship in after the program has started.
